One of the questions to consider each year on this Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ is: Do I really believe that this is Jesus that I am receiving in the form of bread and wine? How we approach the Body and Blood of Christ, how we accept this precious gift into our hands and our bodies, and how we take this gift back to our seats and then back home and into the world say a lot about what we believe.
Parents have an important role in providing the example to their children of receiving the Body and Blood of Christ and then sharing that gift with others by their words and actions.
Faith Chat Question: When you receive Holy Communion and hear the words, “The Body of Christ/Blood of Christ,” what are some thoughts and feelings you have? What can you do this week to express your belief in the Body and Blood of Christ? Faith Response: For one meal this week, make (or buy) a special loaf of bread. At the meal, pass around the loaf of bread, inviting each person to break off a piece and say something about how he/she can share Christ’s love with others. When everyone has broken off a piece of bread, eat it together. Pray: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for sharing your precious Body and Blood with us in Holy Communion. May our receiving you into our bodies, minds, and souls empower us to be expressions of your love. Amen.
