It is appropriate that, on this first weekend of summer, today’s readings relate to the sea and storms and God’s power over the natural elements. Going to the beach, playing in lakes, thunderstorms and rain are wonderful summertime experiences. Every family looks forward to the relaxing “beach” days of life. But every family also has its share of storms: Personal disagreements, a parent losing a job, natural disasters, the death of a loved one...Whatever storms a family might face, we need to remind one another that Christ is in our midst and that we simply need to call upon Christ to calm our racing hearts and guide us through the storms of life. Faith Chat Question: Jesus is capable of calming storms. What is one thing in your life that you would like Jesus to make calm? When and where have you been awed by God’s action? Faith Response: Watch the Weather Channel on TV. Take note of any major storms and their locations. Do some research as a family and decide on a charity to donate to that provides disaster relief to storm victims, such as Catholic Charities or The Red Cross. Pray: Lord Jesus, calm the storms in our lives and fill us with the calm of your peace. Amen.
