Job suffered, but Jesus healed Simon's mother-in-law. There were many other people who needed healing in Capernaum, but when Simon told Jesus that they were looking for him, he left to go to other villages to preach and heal their sick. Why is it that some are healed while others continue to suffer? It doesn't seem fair.
We experience this paradox between healing and suffering in our families, too. Children feel that their parents' decisions aren't fair based on their perceptions of what their siblings and friends may have experienced. When parents tell their children "No," the children may suffer from feeling that they are being deprived of that which they want. They don't understand the reasons behind their parents' decisions.
"Great is our Lord and mighty in power; to his wisdom there is no limit" (Ps 147:5). God's wisdom is beyond our understanding. Even though we may not understand God's ways, we continue to have faith that God is with us, guiding us and bearing us through our struggles.
Faith Chat Question: What in your life do you want Jesus to heal? What needs to be healed in our society and world?
Faith Response: We are the people who bring Jesus to others. As a family, make a paper chain and write on the links how we bring Jesus' love and healing to others.
Prayer: Merciful Jesus, we pray for healing in our lives and in our world. In the midst of our suffering, though, help us to trust in your goodness and wisdom. Amen.
