BEFORE MASS
Take 30 seconds: Recall a time when you felt that God had abandoned you.
Scripture Readings: Matthew 21:1-11 (Procession); Isaiah 50:4-7; Psalm 22:8-9,17-18,19-20,23-24; Philemon 2:6-11; Matthew 26:14—27:66
Family Perspective: On the cross, Jesus prayed, “My God, my God, why have your forsaken me?” Sometimes we, too, feel abandoned by God. We wonder why things are so difficult and why God lets bad things happen to us and to others. Through the care and comfort of our families and friends, however, we do experience God’s presence and love.
AFTER MASS
Chat:
Adults/Youth/Children: What part of Jesus’ Passion bothers you the most? Why?
Family Response: Display your palms in a prominent place in your house this week. Gather together each day with your palms and pray for those who feel abandoned by God. Do something for an elderly or sick relative or friend to show them that you and God do care for them.
Pray: Lord Jesus, help us to remember that you know what we are feeling when we are having a hard time. Fill us with hope. Amen.
